Upper Eyelids

The upper lids are the most impressionable part of the eye and a small change in this area can make a big difference in appearance. Double eyelids, eyelid lifts, as well as ptosis surgery is all surgery of the upper eyelid. Along with aesthetics, functional issues such as droopy or heavy lids are usually referring to the upper lids, and can make one look sleepy or fatigued. Most eyelid surgery is done to the upper lids where a big aesthetic and functional difference can be appreciated. Get a more youthful and energetic look with upper eyelid surgery.

What Is Double Eyelid Surgery? (Asian Blepharoplasty)

Double eyelid surgery creates a natural looking crease just above the eyelashes to enhance your eyes, making them look bigger and more energetic. This crease is commonly referred to as a “double eyelid” and is present in about half of the Asian population. People who do not have a crease may look more tired and sleepy, and have a harder time applying eye makeup compared to someone with a crease. This surgery can also be performed on people who want more a more prominent or higher pre-existing crease.

Ptosis Surgery

Ptosis is a condition where the upper eyelid is droopy, and can range from mild to severe. The most common cause of ptosis is weakening or stretching of the muscle that lifts and opens the eyelid. This droopiness can cause the eyes to look sleepy and tired and in order to compensate, people often lift their eyebrows and forehead causing wrinkle formation on the forehead. This surgery is often combined with double eyelid surgery to give optimal results.

The Difference Between Ptosis And Double Eyelid Surgery

  • Ptosis surgery helps raise the upper lid margin higher but does not create a double eyelid.
  • Double eyelid surgery alone will not raise the upper lid margin but creates the crease to give the illusion of a larger, more open eye.
  • It is not unusual to correct ptosis and create a lid crease, combining both types of surgery into one, at the same time.
